Location, Location, Location

Headquartered in Santa Monica, CA, these film and television screenplay competitions are all about turning heads in the Hollywood community. It's not about fancy banquet dinners or trophies. It's about cash prizes, feedback, and trying to get your work discovered and produced.

It is worth reiterating... The American Accolades is focused on getting great material into the hands of people who can make a difference. Do we mean this? See which film executives are meeting with the American Accolades' Grand Prize Winner...

Or...

Listen to what "Hollywood" is saying...

These competitions tap into the Hollywood insider community, using judges and readers who know the business and the screenplays it desires. Exposure to this community provides you with essential opportunities.

In Santa Monica, numerous resources abound. MGM Studios is only one of the buyers here. Industry giants such as Jim Cameron, Michael Bay, Pierce Brosnan's Irish Dreamtime, Jerry Bruckheimer, and Ed Zwick have set up shop in this locale. It is also the home of the American Film Market (AFM).

Get discovered!

While every writer is responsible for marketing themselves, the American Accolades may provide you with opportunities you don't otherwise have. Insiders judging in the competition may read your material. Producers, agents or managers may seek out the finalists who will be listed year after year on our Film Hall of Fame and TV & Shorts Hall of Fame webpages.

Current AASC News for 2005:

  • The 5th Annual (2005) American Accolades TV, Treatments, & Shorts Competition is currently underway. This year's competition has categories for Reality Show Treatments, Game Show Treatments, Outlines, Written Pitches/Treatments.  Other categories include Short Screenplay, Short Film, Longform Screenplays, and 1-hour and 1/2-Hour pilots and specs.

  • The American Accolades sixth annual (2004-2005) Screenwriting Competition has recently announced semifinalists.  Former finalists and winners can be found on our Hall of Fame webpage.

  • Interview:  Television writer Jill Blotevogel offers The American Accolades an exclusive interview.  Her current staff position is on "Invasion" at ABC.

  • The American Accolades is pleased to announce over twenty finalists have secured  representation as a direct result of entering this competition.  If you are a former contestant who has secured representation or a deal through this competition, please send us an email so we can begin to accurately tally our success ratio.

  • We are proud to announce that over 100 major companies have agreed to read various former contestants' screenplays as a direct result of their entry into this prestigious competition. If you are a writer who has had a similar request as a result of entering this competition, please let us know so we can add your success to this growing list.

  • Many writers do not sell their first screenplay, but eventually get a writing assignment based on their work. Getting a meeting with an executive is the first step in this process. We provide a list of companies who have agreed to meet with at least one of the American Accolades' contestants from last year based on their submission to this competition.
